会社について

■ What does the company do? When is it needed?

In one sentence: ZEBRA Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive writing instrument manufacturer, founded in 1897, that develops, produces, and sells ballpoint pens, mechanical pencils, markers, and related products.

  • 🖊️ Business overview: The company develops, manufactures, and sells a wide range of writing instruments, including ballpoint pens, mechanical pencils, and markers. Founded in 1897, it is headquartered in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, and aims to support and enrich people’s lives through the power of writing.

  • 📌 Major brands: A wide range of popular and well-known series of pens found in Japanese stationery stores, including, such as SARASA, bLen, MILDLINER, CLiCKART, DelGuard, and Mckee.

  • ✏️ Technology and craftsmanship: Alongside long-selling products such as the permanent marker Hi-Mckee, ZEBRA develops innovative writing instruments that challenge conventional thinking — for example, the DelGuard mechanical pencil, whose lead is protected from breaking under strong writing pressure. Its factory in Japan produces high-quality products informed by a distinctly Japanese sensibility.

  • 🏫 Real-world applications: The official website organizes products by use case, including studying, keeping a planner, working more efficiently, writing beautiful or characterful handwriting and calligraphy, drawing illustrations and art, and gift-giving. In short, ZEBRA supports everyday writing at school, in the office, and at home.

  • 🌏 Global reach: Zebra pens are used and loved in more than 100 regions around the world. The company continues to contribute to "promoting creativity" and "fostering culture" through writing instruments.

  • 💡 Beyond stationery: Under its corporate slogan "Kaku, sono saki no koto" (roughly, "writing, and what lies beyond it"), ZEBRA has been pursuing research and development at the intersection of analog and digital since 2016. By capturing elements such as writing speed, angle, pressure, and duration, the company makes the everyday act of writing visible and quantifiable. It also runs the "kakuwaku project," a series of hands-on writing and creativity workshops, and an IP business built around the Hi! Mckee character.

  • 🦓 Origin of the name: Zebras are gentle animals that carry no weapons of their own, so they live in herds and protect their lives through constant cooperation. Founder Tokumatsu Ishikawa adopted the zebra as the company's trademark, hoping that all employees would unite just as firmly and devote themselves to making the writing instruments essential to cultural progress. The zebra in the trademark faces backward to express "onko chishin" — learning new things by studying the old — and the power of human harmony together with this spirit form the two pillars supporting ZEBRA.

興味を持っていただいている学生のみなさんへ

ZEBRA Co., Ltd. has been developing, manufacturing, and selling writing instruments such as ballpoint pens, mechanical pencils, and markers since its founding in 1897. Some of you may have already picked up a SARASA or a MILDLINER in a stationery shop back home. Zebra pens are used and loved in more than 100 regions worldwide, which means products created in Japan quietly support writing moments for people all over the globe.

One of the company's biggest attractions is its extensive international presence. ZEBRA has bases in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Hungary, China, Hong Kong, and Indonesia, and works with sales agents across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. With your fluency in your native or second language, and firsthand understanding of "what kind of pens people in those countries use and in what situations," can be a significant advantage when planning products and communicating with overseas markets.

ZEBRA is also exploring what writing can become. The company is researching ways to visualize the act of writing through data such as speed, angle, pressure, and duration, and is working to extend the writing experience across both physical and virtual spaces. Because our company values two pillars—"the power of human harmony" and "the spirit of learning from the past to create something new"—we have an environment where people who can respect tradition while bringing in new perspectives can thrive. Your perspective, cultivated in a different culture, will surely be the source of that "newness." Please apply with confidence — your background is an asset, not an obstacle.

DelGuard uses proprietary core technology to automatically prevent lead breakage while writing. Internal springs and metal components work together according to the writing pressure applied vertically or at an angle, optimizing how the lead extends and retracts. 3

bLen - Glide-friendly pen that reduces writing vibration

bLen is designed to control writing vibrations through three key features. Its Direct Touch mechanism stabilizes the refill to reduce tip movement, while its low center of gravity and noise-free structure provide stable ink flow and a comfortable writing experience, even during long writing sessions. The lineup mainly includes 0.5 mm and 0.7 mm models, as well as multi-color/multifunction versions and bLen U, which features a new oil-based ink. It is ideal for business use and extended writing tasks.
